Video is becoming increasingly commonplace in educational settings, but Columbia Law School does much more using EchoVideo. The institution sets up mock trials with small groups of students arguing opposite sides of a case. EchoVideo records their performance, allowing students to go back and review not only the energy they put into it but minutiae such as facial expressions and eye contact that would otherwise get lost in the shuffle. The entire University has also come to rely on EchoVideo’s live-streaming capabilities to share presentations and events with a wide student body.
Many Columbia Law School students don’t speak English as their primary language. EchoVideo provides these learners with the opportunity to repeat lectures and presentations or read along with a transcript to give them an equal chance at success.
Columbia Law School has been using EchoVideo for 10 years and students have responded overwhelmingly favorably. While audio recordings were the norm at first, students pushed their instructors to include video and PowerPoint presentations to make content more engaging.
EchoVideo provides admin dashboards allowing Columbia Law School stakeholders to quickly monitor how many students are watching video content. The institution records 2,500-3,000 presentations per semester with over 20,000 student views today, and that number is only expected to increase moving forward.
