Lectures are great for aural learners, but visual learners prefer something they can see. With EchoVideo’s automatic speech recognition (ASR) capabilities, recorded lectures are automatically transcribed so McMaster University students can read the content. The convenience of on-demand playback also helps busy people pursue an education at McMaster even if they lack the time to be full-time students.
Younger generations don’t want a passive education, but instead, an active learning environment where communication and sharing are paramount. Echo360 supports this through anonymous polling capabilities that reduce the impact of gender and cultural biases while making it easier for all students to contribute to broader class discussions.
McMaster University has performed multiple surveys regarding the efficacy of Echo360 and the evidence is clear: Students love the technology. Of 247 Faculty of Science students surveyed, 76% reported using EchoVideo in some capacity. Of those, 92% reported that lecture capture made their courses more accessible while 84% believed it deepened their understanding of course content. Student Union President Giancarlo Da-Ré was even elected on a platform calling for increased use of Echo360 in McMaster classrooms.
