Augusta University Expands Use of Echo360 University-Wide to Meet Increased Student Demand for Video
Augusta University recently expanded the use of Echo360’s cloud-based academic video platform to offer real-time access to academic content and lectures across the university’s nine colleges and schools. The effort stems, in large part, from an unprecedented student demand for academic video. In the past year alone, Augusta experienced an over 250 percent increase in student usage.
A Video Platform That Meets the Needs of IT and Academic Leadership
The University’s instructional technology and academic departments worked closely together in selecting Echo360. They needed a video platform that supported pedagogical flexibility and reliability across the multiple campuses. Additionally, the University is making a concerted effort to increase student retention, and Echo360’s student engagement tools to facilitate more active learning and higher levels of student participation. These factors were a major consideration for choosing Echo360.
“At Augusta University, we take pride in being on the forefront of innovation, both as a research university as well as a teaching institution,” said Amy Triana, Associate Director of IT Field Services at Augusta University. “That means being thoughtful and creative about how to optimize the investments we’re making in technology from both the IT side as well as the academic side. Echo360’s ability to support pedagogical innovation, while ensuring reliability at scale, generated near universal enthusiasm from our IT and academic leadership.”
A Video Platform that Supports the Needs of Today’s and Tomorrow’s Learners
Using Echo360 hardware or software video capture, Augusta University faculty can now capture learning from anywhere at any time. They can incorporate “low-stakes” testing methods to gauge student understanding by adding polls, questions, or other activities during their presentations. Analytics give instructors real-time insights to help identify at-risk students and allow them to modify their instruction and intervene. Students can create their own personal study guides with time-synced notes within class lectures and presentations. They can also ask their instructor questions anonymously and in a risk-free way; this feature also encourages higher levels of student participation. 24/7 access to course discussions, material, and content help students keep pace with their course of instruction.
“The explosion of video in teaching and learning is changing the way higher education institutions traditionally think about scaling technology across campus,” said Fred Singer, CEO and founder of Echo360. “Forward thinking, agile institutions like Augusta University understand the powerful intersection of academics and IT, and are integrating video platform solutions to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s learners.”
