Our weekly #edtech / #edchat recap takes a look at the near-term future of education technology and the impact learner analytics will play. Here are some of the hot topics that crossed our Twitter feed this week.

What will education technology look like over the next 5 years? This article, published on Mindshift takes a look at technology that is shaping the future of education. Trends include increased student-teacher collaboration and of course, the blended classroom. The ability to collaborate and engage as well as create a hybrid, online / in-class learning experience are key features of Echo360’s Active Learning Platform.

The use of Big Data and predictive analytics is growing in higher education. And according to this article, analytics can play a significant role to improve student retention and outcomes by identifying “at-risk” students early on. Once again, we’re only beginning to explore the possibilities about how a student’s in-class behavior serves as a predictor of success. We recently shared an article authored by Dr. Perry Samson, but it’s worth sharing again. Promoting Engagement in Large Classes provides insights into what, if anything, students or instructors do within the classroom that affects their learning.

We hope you’ll “save the date” for September 21-22, 2015 to attend our upcoming Active Learning Conference in Los Angeles. The conference, at Loyola Marymount University, will help educators, instructional designers, IT professionals, and administrators connect with their peers. Attendees will hear how other institutions are using Echo360. And, they will get an inside look at our Active Learning Platform, a solution that combines the best of lecture capture, student engagement tools, and learning analytics in a single, easy-to-use cloud-based platform. Look for more information about conference sessions beginning next week.

Finally, if you haven’t done so we’d love to get your vote for the two Echo360 panels we have proposed for SXSWEdu in 2016. Learn more about these important sessions and cast your vote today.
