For the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), training goes beyond exams and certifications. It focuses on ensuring officers are prepared to make split-second decisions that protect both the public and themselves. From the Trooper Academy to Port of Entry Officers and Field Training Officers, CSP relies on consistent, high-quality assessment to ensure officers are knowledgeable, confident, and current on state and federal regulations.
To support this mission, CSP expanded its use of Echo360 by adopting EchoExam, extending use of PointSolutions. With EchoExam, the department gained access to additional features and deeper insights that have strengthened how assessments are delivered, analyzed, and improved across multiple training programs.
Today, CSP uses EchoExam for weekly testing across its Trooper Academy and Port of Entry Officer Academy, as well as within Field Training programs. These programs are managed by multiple individuals and serve learners with distinct responsibilities, ranging from roadway safety and court-related duties to the enforcement of commercial motor vehicle regulations.
EchoExam supports assessment across CSP’s Trooper Academy, Port of Entry Officer Academy, and Field Training programs. Cadets complete regular assessments as part of their academy experience, while Field Training Officers use the platform to evaluate knowledge retention, certification readiness, and training effectiveness. This shared approach gives training leaders consistent insight into learner performance across programs.
With access to detailed performance data through EchoExam, CSP can more easily collaborate with instructors to review assessment results and make targeted improvements to both assessments and training content.
“I absolutely love the statistics that EchoExam provides. They really help me evaluate our test questions. If no one passes a question, I can look at that and determine whether the wording needs to be adjusted or if the question is no longer necessary. It has really helped narrow our focus to what is most valuable,” LaDonna Rogers, Training Coordinator at the Colorado State Patrol.
Using EchoExam’s reporting capabilities, training leaders can:
This data-driven approach ensures assessments accurately reflect knowledge requirements while strengthening the effectiveness of instruction. This is especially important in field training environments, where officers must demonstrate they are staying current and capable in high-stakes situations.
Despite the scale and complexity of CSP’s training programs, implementation of EchoExam was fast and seamless. The platform was quickly rolled out to end users across academies and field training programs.
Looking ahead, CSP plans to further leverage test banks and universal editing, allowing training leaders to make updates at scale, save time, and maintain consistency across programs. This flexibility supports CSP’s need to continuously adapt training as regulations, procedures, and best practices evolve.
Beyond the technology itself, CSP values Echo360 as a trusted partner. The Echo360 team has been a consistent and responsive resource, providing guidance and answers even on short notice. This level of support has helped the department quickly realize value from the platform and confidently expand its use.
“The team has been an amazing resource. That level of support is not always there when you purchase a program, but any time I have needed help, even on short notice, I have gotten answers and support right away. Having that kind of ongoing support has been one of the biggest benefits for us,” LaDonna Rogers, Training Coordinator at the Colorado State Patrol.
