SHEFFIELD UNIVERSITY CASE STUDY: Changing the way students engage with lectures

Sheffield University doesn’t just pay lip service to the notion that choosing where to study is about more than which courses are on offer. It places the best possible student experience front and centre of all it does. This exceptional commitment to providing a dynamic and inspiring environment has seen it voted the number one university in the Russell Group for student experience and the third best nationally. It is also the founder of the global #WeAreInternational campaign, now backed by more than 100 universities, which highlights the huge academic and cultural contribution international students make. To consistently meet and exceed the needs of its diverse and vibrant student body, the university has used Echo360 to record lectures on an ad hoc basis for nine years. Recently, they decided to upgrade to an ‘opt-out’ approach, using Echo360’s video and active learning platform. This means the screen and audio of every lecture in each department will be recorded from September, unless lecturers specifically ask for it not to be.
